HP is releasing a new Chromebox this spring. Though it doesn’t have a clever name, it does have some decent specs, and HP says it will work with Google’s new ‘Google for Meetings’ conferencing systems. Stylish and compact, the new Chromebox from HP will also be available in four colors.
The HP Chromebox will have an HDMI port as well as a DisplayPort, which can support up to two monitors at once. WiFI, Bluetooth, and four USB 3.0 ports round out the soft specs. It will have a core i7 Haswell processor available as well, but not standard. HP doesn’t list which processor is going to be the step-down yet.
The colors — Smoke Silver, Ocean Turquoise, Snow White and Twinkle Black — probably go with just about any decor. HP notes some of those are also the same colors as their Chromebook 14, introduced a few months ago. If you don’t find a color to suit your style, HP says you can tuck it away neatly, as the device works well with any VESA mount.
Available this spring, HP promises more details at that time. Pricing wasn’t discussed in the announcement, though it likely won’t approach the $99 price of Google’s morning announcement. For now, the world is getting another respectable Chromebox at a time many wondered if the whole genre of desktop Chrome was dead and buried.
