New Nexus 7 up for pre-order at Best Buy with Android 4.3 and $229.99 starting price (from TheVerge)

As if that Best Buy Nexus 7 flyer wasn’t enough, the big retailer is stepping up its efforts to preempt Google’s tablet announcement by posting its pre-order pages for the device ahead of the official launch. The online store provides full-resolution images of the newly upgraded Nexus 7 slate, detailing the addition of a camera and a now-horizontal wordmark on the back. The latter implies that Google’s second Nexus 7 is intended to be used in landscape mode more often than in portrait, ostensibly in an effort to underline its credentials as a tablet rather than just an oversized phone.

The specs we’ve seen previously have been confirmed by the two Best Buy pages, with the highlight being a 1920 x 1200 display resolution, leading to a fine 323ppi pixel density. There’s also 2GB of RAM, a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro 8064 processor with Adreno 320 graphics, and the rear camera’s resolution is 5 megapixels. The 16GB Nexus 7 costs $229.99 and the 32GB option is listed at $269.99.

Another confirmation of previous leaks is the Android 4.3 software version on board, which retains the Jelly Bean coding designation. That foreshadows Google’s expected announcement of version 4.3 at its event later today, though the fact we’re not yet moving to the Key Lime Pie stage of development also suggests there’ll be a paucity of new features to enjoy. Still, the Nexus 7 is becoming thinner, faster, and higher-res, that can’t be considered bad news, can it?
